Practice

Kim is an associate practicing in the areas of estate planning, business and succession planning, business transactions, not-for-profit organizations, tax planning and advocacy, trust and estate administration, and employee benefits. Previously, she was associated with Dewey Ballantine LLP and Patterson, Belknap, Webb & Tyler LLP in New York City. She also worked in the not-for-profit sector, as the Executive Director of Ellison Youth, an after-school program in the Bedford-Stuyvesant neighborhood of Brooklyn, New York, and as the Director of Grantmaking Services at the Philadelphia Foundation.

Kim's experience in estate planning and administration includes the preparation of wills and trusts that anticipate tax and family management issues, lifetime planning for the transfer of assets to children, grandchildren and charitable organizations, and the planning required for persons with special needs. She assists clients in all aspects of the planning process.

Kim's not-for-profit organizations law experience includes advising small and large private foundations on formation, governance and grantmaking issues; advising not-for-profits on establishing planned giving programs; advising community foundations on donor-advised funds and other governance issues; advising individuals on philanthropic giving; and advising not-for-profit corporations' boards on a variety of matters including fiduciary, tax and corporate matters.

Kim's business law practice includes strategic planning for business clients, including representation on executive compensation and buy-sell issues, as well as structural, transactional and tax-related matters.

Kim's experience in tax planning and advocacy includes advising clients on business transactions, drafting and negotiating transaction documents and applying to the Internal Revenue Service and State of New York Department of Taxation and Finance for rulings on specific transactions.

In addition, Kim assists clients in employee benefits matters, including drafting qualified domestic relations orders.

Recent Experience

  • Business succession and tax planning for a major regional retail business and a major regional manufacturer, each with first, second and third generation participants involved in business operations;
  • Created irrevocable trust with multiple grantors to hold family vacation home to provide a mechanism for siblings to pass property to next and more remote generations, and to allow future generation's participation and enjoyment;
  • Assisted in post mortem planning to carry out charitable intentions of decedent; and
  • Worked with charitable beneficiaries to reduce expenses of, and review options regarding the restructure or termination of, charitable remainder trust.
