Bousquet Holstein Announces 5th Annual High School Photo Contest

Syracuse - March 8, 2013 - Bousquet Holstein PLLC is pleased to announce its 5th Annual Photography Contest for Syracuse City and Onondaga County high school students in grades 9 through 12. For this year's photo contest, we are challenging students to discover and capture abstraction which can be found everywhere and doesn't necessarily require Photoshop to create. Students are encouraged to use composition, color, texture and shape to depict their subjects using a detail, a close-up, or any approach in non-traditional way.

Now showing through May 12, 2013, the Everson Museum is exhibiting American Moderns 1910-1960, From O'Keeffe to Rockwell. The exhibit explores a wide variety of American art from the first half of the twentieth century. The exhibition consists of 53 paintings and four sculptures by such prominent artists as Georgia O’Keeffe, Norman Rockwell, Milton Avery, Stuart Davis and Arthur Dove. Drastic social, political and economic changes during this time period challenged artists to define what could be considered “modern” from a wide variety of definitions. From abstraction and cityscapes to realism and nature, these works selected from the Brooklyn Museum’s permanent collection offer a new perspective on American modern art.  www.everson.org

The flyer detailing the contest theme, rules, deadlines, and judging criteria can be found on our website homepage at www.bhlawpllc.com. Submissions must be received by Friday, September 27, 2013. Cash scholarship prizes will be awarded to students for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Place photographs and a donation by the firm will be made to the visual arts department of the 1st Place winning school.

Bousquet Holstein PLLC and its members have been consistent supporters of the arts and education in our city and county. We plan to feature the 1st Place winning photograph on our 2013 Thanksgiving card, with credit to and a brief biography about the artist. In late October, we will host a showing of the top 20 entries. A reception is planned for finalists and their immediate families and teachers at which time the winning photo will be announced. In the past, the winning images have been showcased in local newspapers and many schools chose to congratulate their winning students in their monthly newsletters to parents.
